Background of the Study:
Ancient bead-making traditions in Bida provide a window into the artistic, social, and economic dimensions of past societies. Beads, crafted from diverse materials such as glass, stone, and shell, served as symbols of status, trade commodities, and ritual objects (Yakubu, 2023). Archaeological investigations have revealed intricate manufacturing techniques and stylistic variations that reflect cultural interactions and technological innovations (Suleiman, 2024). Recent advances in microscopic and chemical analyses have enabled researchers to trace the provenance of materials and the evolution of bead-making practices (Abubakar, 2025). These artifacts not only illuminate aesthetic and cultural expressions but also function as reliable chronological markers in stratigraphic contexts. By integrating laboratory analyses with field surveys and ethnographic data, this research aims to reconstruct the bead-making traditions of Bida and assess their broader significance within regional archaeological frameworks (Yakubu, 2023).
Statement of the Problem:
Although ancient bead-making traditions in Bida hold considerable archaeological importance, they remain underdocumented and poorly understood. Inconsistent recovery of bead assemblages and limited analytical studies have hindered a full appreciation of their technological and cultural contexts. This gap in research prevents a comprehensive understanding of the role of beads in social, economic, and ritual practices. Consequently, there is an urgent need to systematically investigate these traditions using multidisciplinary methods (Suleiman, 2024; Abubakar, 2025).

Significance of the Study:
This study is significant as it deciphers ancient bead-making traditions to reveal broader cultural, economic, and technological narratives. Its findings will enrich regional archaeology and support the conservation of intangible heritage aspects (Yakubu, 2023).
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to the investigation of ancient bead-making traditions in Bida Local Government Area, Niger State, based on artifact analysis, laboratory tests, and ethnographic interviews. Limitations include uneven preservation of bead assemblages and restricted sample sizes.
